Mapping LA’s Tech Scene

16 Jun

Los Angeles is known for its expansive boundaries, but the folks at Forbes Magazine give us a look into just how tightly-knit the Southland’s up-and-coming tech scene is. With the recent launch of Represent LA, technology entrepreneurs now have a platform where they can tag and map their businesses on an interactive website. Users can see the location of these tech establishments and click on the icons to see a business description, address, and website.

Keeping true to its tech-y roots, the website is crowdsourced. If you own (or know of) a tech startup, accelerator, incubator, co-working space, or investor in the greater Los Angeles area, you can add that location to the map.

This tool simplifies the process of connecting service providers with users in addition to showing where both can find investment opportunities for new startups. The map shows a substantial clustering of tech enterprises in and around Venice and Santa Monica. Referred to as the “Silicon Beach,” these L.A. environs stand to give the ‘other’ Silicon locale a run for its capital.
