Planning Los Angeles

18 Apr

As the American Planning Association’s (APA) annual planning conference winds down in Los Angeles, academics and practitioners are taking a moment to reflect on the planning challenges and successes that continue to shape the city. Professor David C. Sloane, at the University of Southern California has edited the recently released Planning Los Angeles. Dr. Sloane has worked with some of the city’s most knowledgeable planners to catalogue “as many vital planning issues in Los Angeles as possible.” The book centers around one central point: “namely, that even the allegedly most sprawltastic city in America — the city that has become synonymous in the public imagination with smog, highways, disasters (both natural and man-made), and growth run wild — is planned, with the history, legislation, and culture to prove it.”

As a side note, @recycleyourmat claims to have coined the term “sprawl-tastic” back in December.
